Shoerocker's Choice - OKAY, THIS IS WHAT I CALL AMAZING MUSIC! (Florence and the Machine)

FLORENCE + THE MACHINE

Okay, so i just discovered this girl a few days ago or so and i'm already in love with her... she is THE next big thing. Florence and the Machine (mainly singer/songwriter Florence Welch but also a collaboration of other artists who provide backing music for her voice [Robert Ackroyd, Christopher Lloyd Hayden, Isabella Summers, Tom Monger]) is/are (whatever) pretty new in the bizzz of recording artists and the debut album LUNGS was just released july 6th in the UK where she is from. (it entered the charts on #2 right behind micheal jackson)

Her music is like a very soulful indie/pop/rock mix. Her debut single "Kiss With A Fist" is more rock then pop, her 2nd single "Dog Days Are Over" is very indie/folk and her 3rd one (my fave) called "Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)" is a mixture of soul, pop and psychedelic-indie-rock. So basically her styles vary.

Releases:

Singles: "Kiss With A Fist"                                                                                                                                                                                         "Dog Days Are Over"                                                                                                                                                                                   "Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)"

Albums: "Lungs"

EP'S:      "A Lot Of Love, A Lot Of Blood"

Shoerocker's Choice... new music for YOU (Julia Nunes)

Julia Nunes!

Welcome to a new edition of 'Shoerocker's Choice' were I bring new music to YOU.

This time I'm introducing an artist who is not signed and doesnt even want to be (!) yeah thats right, Julia Nunes is a normal college kid who makes music for fun and she intents to keep it that way. Julias 'Career' started out on  YouTube (Username: Jaaaaaaa) where she started to upload videos of herself covering her favourite songs. (And even that wasnt intended, her first video was a cover of 'Survivor' by destinys child, and she only uploaded it because she wanted to win a Ukulele in a contest but the people responded so well that she decided to keep it up.)

But Julia doesnt just do cover songs, no.... she writes and produces her own songs too and she already has two CD's out called 'Left, Right, Wrong' and 'I Wrote These'  wich she put out herself (with a little help from her parents)

Now, this girl is not just the cutest girl i have EVER seen, but she is also very talented and just a fun, energetic 'have-a-good-time kinda gal... oh, and shes a godess on the Ukulele, but see for yourself:

okay now, thats enough looking, start listening:

....and now youre thinking 'wow that dude was right, she is awesome...'

yeah.... told you so... :P but seriously, go check her out, its worth it!

does it speak?

thinking is one of the most stressful things i've ever come across
and not being able to articulate what i want to say drives me crazy
i think i should try and read more books and learn some new words
my sister used to read the dictionary i'm going to start with that
i'd like to travel i want to see india and the pyramids, a whale and that race with all the bycicles in France
i'm not sure about rivers they scare me
but i love swimming i'm good at it
when i swim i think about numbers, i count the laps
when i was younger i saw a house burn down and i walked past it everyday for the next six years
derelict black chalky and dangerous i wondered if squatters lived there?
still not sure but i know there were not any parties coz they were shit
after a while the council got round to tidying up the town making it less offeciencive here and there
they say it was a eye sore so they tore it down
behind the house there was a wall with a few bits of crappy graffiti and the word cunt written on it in massive letters and now i walk pass that
i like sitting in the park and i like walking through it
i like taking my dog there and friends and i like being alone
i like flowers and simplicity
i like compassion and thoughtful gifts
i like being able to shout but i wish i could be quiet
but when i'm quiet people think i'm sad and usually i am
sometimes when i'm at a busy trainstation somewhere big with noisy trains
i feel like putting down my bags and shouting out because i have something to say
don't you want to share the guilt?
don't think just try and sleep!

Dirt

Dirty streets and dirty deals
Doesnt need thinking about
Nor when you're eating your home-cooked meals but...
Actually it fucking does

The time that it takes is long
And the hurt that it makes is strong
And those eyes that you see are so young
They're so young

The backs of trucks covered in dirt
Dirt from the road from the track
Dirt from the devil himself
I cant see a way of you getting back

Oh, dirty human being
Everyday day after day, day after day
Well, there's no way
You'll get away

And the time that it takes is long
And the hurt that it makes is strong
And those eyes that you see are young
They're so young

These are the dirty deals
These are the dirty deals
These are the dirty dirty dirty dirty deals

And
Home is where the heart is
But I dont see any heart left in you and

It's been, been ripped and sliced and torn
Been kicked and beat and smashed and ...
It's just a routine, just something
Just something that you do every day
There's no hope of getting away

Home is where the heart is
But I dont see any heart left in you and
COuldnt be, not really, not after what you've been through
So, what's left? What does the world see?
You're just a piece of dirt where a heart used to be

If You'll Stay In My Past

I understand
Your need to switch the roles around
And despise me for the
Fact that we didn't last
And I'll be your punching bag
If you'll stay in my past.

I understand
To want to have a mature dialogue
Is too much to ask
and I'll be your one regret
If you'll stay in my past.

I understand
You delude yourself, and sleep with
A different guy
Each night in order to recover fast
And I'll let you cheapen sex
If you'll stay in my past.

I understand
That we can never speak again
And your resentment towards me
Will last
And I will let you forget me
If you'll stay in my past.

I understand
That you will one day love again
And that it's selfish of me to
want to ask
If you can only live off the
memory off me.

So please stay in my past

Shoerocker's Choice Nr.5

Shoerocker’s Choice Nr.5

I know in the beginning I said that Shoerocker’s Choice is going to be an monthly journal but I have decided to break with that because it is like everyday I find new artists who I want to feature or I think of artists that I already know who totally have to be featured, so I’m just going to do a shoerocker’s choice journal whenever the f**k I want! =P

So, the Band I’m featuring this time is called "ALPHABEAT". I first heard of them a few days ago, so I don’t really know that much about them =P well, the first song i heard of them is called "Fascination" and i totally loved it! It’s an upbeat, fun, crazy, party pop song. I am totally addicted to it! I instantly bought their self titled debut album on iTunes ( the german iTunes store, don’t know if it’s available in the american store (yet) ). The album is just like the single, fun and fresh and funky and just perfect for spring time. The band is from Denmark btw. And they dropped their first single that was called "Fantastic 6" in ‘07.

Members:

Vocals - Stine Bramsen

Drums - Troels Hansen

Vocals - Anders SG

Bass - Anders Reinholdt

Guitar - Rasmus Nagel

Guitar - Anders B.

and as always, some vids to impress:

This Is Me After Watching "The Tracey Fragments"

kay, i just watched a movie with some of my friends and now i'm gonna tell you how i feel about it ( i know normally i don't do that kind of stuff, but i fell really weird right now and im in need of telling you about it... besides, i was online anyways!)

0h, and the movie we saw was "The Tracey Fragments" starring Ellen Page

ok, i'm not giving you a recap or something cause it would take me too long, and to be honest, im kinda tired =P so, here i go:

THIS IS MY EMOTIONAL STATE RIGHT NOW: i feel very depressed and sad, and i feel like i want to cry but i cant because im emotionally overstrained.... its a weird feeling and i never want to feel like this again, dont get me wrong, the movie is great, awesome editing, great music and Ellen Page (whom i love) is briliant as allways, but this movie just left me with a pain... it was especially hard for me because traceys little brother sonny, who gets lost, looks sooo much like my little brother kai (age ten) and i love him more then anything and seeing how tracey is searching for her little brother so desperately (...) hurt.

Jake Gyllenhaal Gay????

ok, guys, i found this article on the internet, and now im going over, and over it.... is it true??? what do you think???

here's the article:

Add Jake Gyllenhaal to the growing list of celebrities recently outed by former Hollywood publicist JJ. According to an unnamed source, the Zodiac star has been canoodling with male BF Chris Fischer (Pictured Below) for years; a romance that ultimately led to his split with recent robbery victim Kirsten Dunst. Jake, who was most recently romantically linked to actress Reese Witherspoon, is reportedly expecting a baby with his baby, via surrogate mother, in September.

According to JJ’s Source:

“Jake Gyllenhaal has been dating the same guy for years. Last year Jake and his bf were arrested and brought into the West Hollywood station after the sheriffs office was called after catching Jake and his bf having sex in an SUV behind the restaurant Chin Chins in LA. Both were later released.

Jake has been dating this guy for years, even before he broke up with Kirsten Dunst. Kirsten Dunst found out about his bf and confronted him at Chateau Marmont. The confrontation was loud and they broke up right there. News of their break-up followed a few days later. Jake and his bf are currently expecting a baby through a surrogate. They used a company based in Westwood, CA. The baby is due in September.”

I think its bullshit.... just some bloggers skandal-horny fantasy.... but srsly now, what do you guys think?? xo-marc

VERY, VERY Important ISSUE

i just saw this video, and i gotta say im.... i dont know im sad and pissed and confuesed.. ach, see for yourself if you havent yet:

this is a really important thing... i am gay too, and when i was 15 i got beaten up all the time because of that fact. but the worst thing is that at somepoint you start to hate yourself for what happens, because you cannot change it... i cried soooo many times, night after night after night because i was so confused, it was all soo new and there i was being punished for being something i cant change for being gay, for being me. now i accepted myself just the way i am, but being gay is still not getting any easier... people like to think that gays choose to be gay but that is not the fact! and people think of gays as this weird, different, perverds,... but we are NORMAL PEOPLE.... life is hard enough as it is, stop the hate! kids need to be educated and told, that gay people are normel people just like anyone else... i have so much more to say, but this comment would be waaay too long, and i cant gather my thoughts right now... im really upset right now.... anyways

oh, and i took this from jilly's page! (jillypeppa.buzznet.com)

"Shoerocker's Choice" (Artist Of The Month)

Kay Buzznet boys and girls, last week Bree suggested that I could do some kind of "music journal" like: "Artist Of The Week" or something and I was like: "yeah, sounds good...." and so I thought about that, but after a while I thought about changing it into "Song Of The Week" but I wasn’t feeling that too much, so I decided to stick to the first idea... but then I thought hey! What if I can’t come up with a new artist every week???... and so (and I’m about to make my point now) I changed into "Artist Of The Month" (!!!) And besides, I think it’ll be a little more special if people have to wait a whole month until I post the next journal instead of just a week. =) sooo... here it comes, the very first Artist Of The Month journal!!!! (I called it "Shoerocker’s Choice)

I had thousands and thousands of names of artists going through my head, but after hours and hours of thinking and thinking=) I finally decided which one to pick: THE COLD WAR KIDS! A band that is very, very special to me. I looove their sound and especially the sound of Nathan Willetts voice. I don’t know why but they sound like a band from another century, very "old school" I don’t know how famous they are in America, but if you don’t know them yet, you definitely should get to know them... they rock!

Band members:

  • Nathan Willett - Vocals, Piano
  • Matt Maust - Bass
  • Jonnie Russell - Guitar
  • Matt Aveiro - Drums

Discography:

  • 2005 - Mulberry Street EP
  • 2005 - With Our Wallets EP
  • 2006 - We Used To Vacation EP
  • 2006 - Benefit At The District EP
  • 2007 - Robbers & Cowards (Album)
  • 2007 - Hang Me Up To Dry (Single)

And here are some vids to show you how AWESOME they are, enjoy! :

"Saint John" Live @ ACL 2007 (i looove this song!!!!)
"Hang Me Up To Dry"Live @ Jimmy Kimmel

"We Used To Vacation" (Acoustic)

soo.... i hope you guys liked it, them, me(??) =P please tell me if you liked it, what you liked, what you didn't like and what i can do better... thanks for reading and.... OUT!
